Range Rover Velar

The Range Rover Velar’s design, build quality, luxurious fittings and off-roading ability is an excellent mix, and the car carries the distinction of being Oneshifts Car of the Year 2017!

Filling up the space between the fashionable Evoque, and the higher-end Range Rover Sport, the Velar even features tastefully designed rose gold accents on the front bumper and front fender.

The interior features a state-of-the-art dual 10” display infotainment unit, very good seating for five, and a generous 673 litres of cargo room for those who seek an active lifestyle.

Available with either a 2.0 Turbocharged or a 3.0 V6 Supercharged engine, and an available adjustable suspension, the Velar not only does what a Range Rover is built to do off the beaten path, it is able to deliver superb driver satisfaction on winding roads.

BMW X3

Wider shoulders, and added road presence, the new BMW X3 has everything big about it. A larger Kidney grille, subtly angled wheel arches and newly sculpted rear tail lamps show off BMW’s new design language. Designed by Munich-based Australian, Calvin Luk, who was also responsible for the exterior styling of the X1 (F48) and 1 Series LCI (F20), the X3 not only is a looker, as we learnt.

Occupant space is one of the things that BMW had addressed, and the X3 does not disappoint. Cargo room is a good 550 litres, and is expandable to a generous 1,600 litres.

Oneshift took the car through picturesque Australian mountainous roads, and found love with how well poised the SUV is.

The X3 will be available in Singapore with the sDrive20i xLine, xDrive30i xLine, xDrive30i M Sport and the high-performance range-topping M40i.

Mazda CX 9

It has been a while since Mazda decided to force-feed their engines, and they have relied solely on natural aspirated combustion. The CX 9 is the first car that Mazda decided to drop in some boost for more power and torque, and for a good reason.

Their new SUV seats seven, and does not disappoint with their well-known build quality, especially Mazda’s paintwork. Just like other Mazdas in the range, the CX 9 features a larger-than-life front grille, plenty of chrome and aggressively styled headlamps. From the side, designers have kept strictly to the “Golden Ratio” in automotive design, and have delivered one of the best looking seven seater SUVs the market has to offer current-day.

With the last row of seats folded, the CX 9 delivers an already station wagon-rivalling 840 litres of cargo room, and maxes this to 1,848 litres when the middle row is folded flat.

Under the hood, the 2.5 litre turbocharged inline 4 delivers a very impressive 420Nm of torque. Enough to haul seven adults and then some... But being a people carrier does not make the large SUV sluggish. The CX 9 actually does the 0-100km/h in just 8.2 seconds.
