In BYD’s headquarters in Shenzhen, we were given an in-depth presentation of the Seal’s development and engineering. Here are the most interesting things we learnt!
We already know about the Cell-To-Body (CTB) technology, where the battery forms an integral part of the Seal’s chassis. What we didn’t know was that 20% of the energy during a frontal collision and 30% of the energy during a side collision is absorbed by the battery!
CTB allows the Seal to achieve the ‘Golden Axle-load Ratio’ of 50:50 weight distribution.
CTB allows the Seal to sit only 467mm above the ground.
CTB allows the Seal to achieve a torsional rigidity of 40,500 Nm - rivalling super cars.
The dual motor Seal employs a front asynchronous motor assembly and a rear permanent magnet synchronous motor.
The Seal’s hardware is driven by a Qualcomm CPU with 8 cores, 8 GB of running memory and 128 GB of storage memory.
