The long wait is over. The highly anticipated Mazda MX-5 is now finally available in Singapore, and with the manual transmission version to boot.

Launched at the newly renovated Mazda flagship showroom along the Ubi belt, the car is set to win over the hearts and minds of numerous fans that have supported the MX-5’s ancestors throughout the model line’s 25 year history. The new showroom itself is also a highlight of the Mazda customer experience; with a full range of Mazda cars to display and quality delivery and aftersales sections to ensure utmost customer care.

The MX-5 family has held the Guinness World Record for being the “Best selling two-seater sports car” and if the new car’s visually stunning exterior is anything to go by, it’ll keep that title. Chief designer Masashi Nakayama was at the launch to walk the media through various key design elements of the new MX-5, including sporty styling cues such as a “chopped-off” rear fender to give the car a wide squatting stance as well as the long shoulder line that runs both inside and out of the car elongating the car for an elegant and poised look.

Equipped with the latest SKYACTIV-G 2.0 naturally aspirated engine putting out 160PS and 200Nm, the MX-5 doesn’t sound like the fastest thing on four wheels around; don’t be fooled though. At kerb weight of only 1,057kg for the manual version, it will see the century sprint in a decent 7.3 seconds.

The SKYACTIV chassis was also designed for maximum driving pleasure, with a 50:50 weight distribution and shorter overhangs. Mazda also made sure to keep the yaw inertia low and further reduce the centre of gravity to ensure stability and handling is improved over the already acclaimed outgoing model.

Mazda has also included a 7 inch display for the infotainment system, controlled by the now commonplace rotary knob that should be familiar to most. Bose premium sound system with nine speakers and even one inside each headrest ensures that your music is delivered to your ears even during open top driving.

The MX-5 has a sticker price of $160,888 for the manual version and $163,888 for the auto. Head down to the new Mazda showroom at 5 Ubi Close to check out this icon now!
