The Toyota Yaris Cross has been on the market for a while now. It’s a fabulous little city SUV, and it has always been on the fun end of the spectrum when it comes to Toyota’s broad range of cars.

So, the Yaris Cross feels really suited for the Cherry Blossom colour you see it wearing in these pictures, as well as seven other funky new hues that come as part of Toyota’s way of showing the truly unique personality of the car.

Here’s a quick recap:

Nice pink! Reminds me of the last concert of Blackpink’s world tour just this week… and ice cream…

Right?! Toyota calls this Cherry Blossom - a ‘soft and delicate’ pink that’s named after those lovely trees in spring.

But tell me - why?

Toyota wanted to show off the Yaris Cross’ fun personality in a unique way. So instead of the usual colour palette from the factory, they decided to introduce something more trendy.

The colours available are Snow Blue, Cherry Blossom, Turquoise Dream, Chalk Grey, Pearlescent Unicorn, Hunter Jade, Midnight Purple and Midnight Gold.

And how?

These colours are applied on as a wrapping film from Toyota’s supplier, Inozetek with a top-up fee.

Nice. It seems like an inexpensive way to make the Yaris Cross stand out. But I want to ask: is the Yaris Cross bigger than a Yaris?

I thought you’d ask that since they share the Yaris name. Based on our sleuthing, the Yaris hatch has a wheelbase of 2,550 mm and the Yaris Cross 2,560 mm. The Yaris Cross is also 80 mm longer and 35 mm wider. So yes, the Yaris Cross is bigger than the Yaris, but not by much.

What then is the difference between the Toyota Yaris and the Toyota Yaris Cross?

Conceptually, the Yaris Cross is essentially the ‘raised’ version of the Yaris - retaining all of the wonderful traits of the hatchback but dressing it in a far more trendy body shape. Because, who doesn’t want to look cooler?

OK, got it. Now, the burning question: would buying the Yaris Cross get me Blackpink tickets?

Unfortunately, no. But for the small top-up fee, you get a really unique Yaris Cross that’ll arguably make you far happier for longer than attending a Blackpink concert.
