Adding one more to the fray of compact crossover cars, BMW’s launches the new X2! The Bavarian marque makes a bold splash, fielding a car, which is exceptionally daring, with a low-slung flat roof, neatly-cut lines and large 225/45 R19 shoes.

The new face features for the first time, an “inverted” Kidney grille, bolstered by bold bumper sculpting, creating a broader more distinctive and sportier appearance. LED headlamps feature familiar twin circular elements, and together with its foglamps, the X2 is easily recognised with its six-eyed face.

With an upward travelling shoulder line, the X2 pays homage to the 2000 CS and 3.0 CSL, with a BMW roundel sited proud on the C pillar, a visually strong element which makes the X2 instantly recognisable. Rear treatment sees prominent LED tail lamps, and its planted stance delivers a sense of girth.

Sitting 70mm lower than the X1, the X2 hints of a coupe-like silhouette, and the M Sport X Package available here includes fancy body coloured side skirts, signature Frozen Grey body claddings and wheel guards.

The cockpit features ergonomically placed switchgear, with the driver in-mind. As a first, dash and door trim features Aluminium Hexagon Anthracite panels. Seats feature Cloth “Micro Hexagon” / Alcantara Anthracite and BMW has also taken the pains to fuss with contrasting yellow thread stitching along the seats and dash.

Using the BMW Connected App passengers are also able to assist in navigation, by connecting via Bluetooth to the car’s infotainment, destinations can be shared. And speaking of sharing, users are also able to share their current location and ETA with selected contacts.

Under the hood, the X2 is powered by a four-cylinder 2.0 turbocharged unit, mated to a quick-shifting seven-speed Steptronic transmission. Power is rated at 192hp, and maximum torque is available from just 1,350rpm.

The new BMW X2 retails for $193,888*
