What better way to discover a car’s true driving performance than on an endless piece of tarmac? The recently concluded event gave us a rare opportunity to experience just how good the F10 5 series really is. Even in its most basic 520i form.

To truly experience the full capacity of the F10 platform, the instructors set up a circuit that included slaloms, a skid pan as well as a ‘parking garage’ to demonstrate the sedan’s lithe performance and also the limits of our ability.

Once we set off on the course, the F10 chassis quickly established its ability to negotiate the multitude of cones with precision and poise. The steering (already in ‘Sport’ mode) was pin sharp around the ‘lane change’ obstacle that required quick flicks of the steering to get around. All this time, you forget that the 520i only has 184bhp from a humble 2.0-litre four cylinder under the hood.

Even in this abrupt change in direction, the chassis felt sure footed. Totally oblivious to the sudden weight shift from left to right and back again.

But it wasn’t until the instructors took us for a hot lap that the true brilliance of the car’s dynamic ability shone through. The car was so well balanced that the instructor even managed to drift it around the skid pan without much difficulty.

Don’t take our word for it though. Check out our video below to see the brilliant F10 5 series in action!
