In today’s technological age, you would often go online, read a ton of reviews and watch videos to determine the right car for you. Besides looking at the functional features such as car boot space, digital displays, and the important safety equipment, one must definitely consider the space in the driver’s seat, especially for individuals at both extremes the short tall and tall(er).

So, if you’re still wondering… Singaporean’s average height stands at 171 cm for males while the female Singaporean is 160 cm. Perhaps that’ll help you clarify which end of the spectrum you’re at!

For individuals with the gift of height, have you been in cars that make you feel suffocated as you have hardly any headroom space? An insufficient legroom space would also mean an extremely awkward seating position for drivers of much longer limbs. And for those that wish that you have some of these tall genes, I’m sure you had to pump up your seats to the highest, but may still have half your face covered by the steering wheel… That must be frustrating!

Honestly, most cars in the market have now adapted to various shapes and sizes of individuals but we’re sharing some of the best vehicles for short tall and tall(er) drivers and what you should be looking out for when searching for your dream ride!

First and foremost, drivers should examine the measurements of the driver’s seat available from manufacturers when looking at the car. Some other details include looking out for adjustable seats! Of course, these measurements and information may only present a partial picture, and the best way to find out if it fits you is still definitely take it for a test-drive. Even sitting in the car in the showroom may not necessarily be a good indicator, and you will definitely need to experience the real road conditions.

For those below the average height, these are some great vehicles for you!

1. Mazda 3

The Mazda 3 is one of the best compact cars you can get in the market. Coupled with the recent lelong by Lion City’s rental, a used Mazda 3 is even more affordable now. While most would find the Mazda 3 rather squishy as compared to its counterparts, here's when the short people finally gets an advantage as they can ease in and out the vehicle easily and not feel too cramped within the interior. What's better, they enjoy better prices! :) The small stature of the vehicle enables great proportion for smaller drivers. Its agile handling, efficient fuel economy, and quality interior makes it a sporty and practical choice. The tilt and telescoping steering wheel that comes standard with the vehicle as well as its optional power adjustable driver’s seat all contributes to an added user-friendly experience.

2. Subaru Forester

Subaru has outfitted its Forester with lots of glass enabling the compact SUV to feel a lot bigger than it already is, and offers drivers of all sizes good visibility. So it is a great vehicle not just for those below the average height... Now that's a versatile one!

3. Lexus ES

The Lexus ES is a great luxury car for this group of individuals due to the offering of its 10-way power adjustable front seats, its height adjustable front shoulder belt anchors, and a power adjustable tilt and telescoping steering wheel. Its infotainment system controls are also within reach and can be found on the steering wheel so you don't have to stretch out that much when driving!

And for those above the average height, check out these rides…

Do also note that selecting a vehicle with a moonroof or sunroof would also reduce your headspace (by approximately 3-4 inches depending on the model) so for tall drivers, you may just want to forgo having moonroofs altogether!

1. Honda CR-V

Stretch out without having to stress about space with close to 1 metre of leg room in every row of the CR-V. So this is a car not just for the long-legged driver, but also for his or her passengers! Headroom throughout the cabin is also sufficient for the taller ones (about 40 inches) and it is outfitted with a tilt and telescopic steering wheel to help drivers find the ideal position for driving.

2. Audi Q7

The Audi Q7 provides plenty of head (38.4 inches) and legroom (41.7 inches) for the driver. Its door apertures also open wide to allow one to enter and exit the vehicle easily.

3.  BMW 5 Series

The long and lean BMW 5 series is a great ride for the lengthy. The interior of the luxurious BMW 5 series boosts extremely comfortable seats with fully electric and memory function for the driver and front passenger, including adjustable side bolsters to keep you in place during those sharp turns. The clean, modern, and relatively minimal design within the vehicle also provides a spacious visual.

Especially for drivers who spend a lot of time in the cars, transiting from one place to another, you would all know the importance of interior comfort rather than just the sleek appearance of your ride. The next time you do pick out a new vehicle, do bask in your seat a little longer to ensure that you get the most comfortable ride for your build!
