In September last year, Citispa collaborated with Manulife Singapore to co-organise the motor racing festival held at Suntec.

Sacrifices

Like most racers, sacrifices are inevitable. Said Greg, "Yes, there are sacrifices made for sure - the biggest one being time spent with the family. I look forward to bringing my two lovely daughters out on weekends, but racing usually falls on weekends."

Besides time, financial sacrifices are committed too, especially when the money could have been used for something else.

"Motor racing is known to be an expensive sport that involves lots of publicity - that's why sponsors play such an important role in keeping this sport up and running, especially for Formula 1," said Greg who has invested close to a million dollars on his racing.

However, the returns have been more than satisfying and Greg aims to achieve his first podium finish this year. He will be participating at some races of the GT3 Asia Challenge, Macau GT Cup and possibly a support race during the 2009 F1 Singapore Grand Prix.

Contribution

Besides living out his racing dream, Greg also makes time to do his part for the community. In September last year, Citispa collaborated with Manulife Singapore to co-organise the motor racing festival held at Suntec.

The main highlight of this event was the Singapore Race Festival Charity Drive held on the last day. 30 supercars ferried VIP guests and children round the Marina Bay F1 street circuit, and proceeds were donated to several charitable beneficiaries.

"Having such events allow me to contribute back to the society and at the same, I hope to raise awareness for motorsports in Singapore and also generate more interest for the sport," said Greg.

Looking ahead

The one thing that will mark a significant development in local motorsports culture is of course the highly-anticipated Changi Motorsports Hub.

"I think that's a great thing to happen. It means I no longer have to travel all the way up to Sepang each time I want to test my race car. It will also boost the level of motorsports in Singapore to greater heights."

When asked if he will allow his precious daughters to go racing, his wife responded, "It's still too early to say now as they are still so young. But the elder one has followed Daddy on some drives, and she seems to like the speed."
