5 Most Affordable Executive Saloons!

5 Most Affordable Executive Saloons!

The executive saloon is the most stereotypical symbol of success. Nothing beats having your own chauffeur shuttling you from business meeting to business meeting in the comfort of the leather-trimmed backseat of your luxury saloon. Mercedes’ E class has long been synonymous with this entire class of vehicles, but their closest competitors have made compelling alternatives at lower price points. If you’re after a luxurious experience on your daily commute but would like to spend your cash a little more prudently, do consider any one of the 5 cars we’re suggesting in this list!

5. Mazda 6 - From $108,888

The 6 may be Mazda's answer to the Toyota Camry, but it definitely punches way above its weight. The current generation Mazda 6 was first introduced in 2013, and received a very minor refresh in 2017, but yet it doesn't look any more dated than any of the other cars in this list, a true testament to Mazda's Kodo design language.

It offers plenty of internal space, with loads of plush materials to boot, and good noise insulation as well. With its advanced suite of assists, the car does feel and drive like some of its European competitors, making the 6 outstanding value indeed!

4. Opel Insignia Gransport - From $111,500

Read our review of the Opel Insignia Grandsport here!

The Insignia has more than a whiff of coupe in its silhouette. Don’t be fooled though, this is a car built very much for comfort - the seats provide excellent back, thigh and neck support, superior to cars in the same price bracket, but doesn’t hold you in all that well when the car is being thrown vigorously round a twisty road.

To continue that whole comfort theme, it comes equipped with a touchscreen infotainment unit, wireless charging, and an impressive 9 speaker BOSE sound system with a subwoofer! Soft-touch materials grace most touch-points, and the overall fit-and-finish is good!

3. Skoda Superb - From $119,900

Here's what we think of the Superb!

The recipe for the Superb is simple - first, create a shell that offers enough interior space and exterior presence to rival its more premium counterparts, then drizzle it with lashings of tried-and-tested Volkswagen Group components. The range topping variant has a generous equipment list, that includes a massive touch-screen infotainment system and even wireless charging.

Skoda hasn’t gone insane with trimming the car with unnecessarily fancy materials, opting to spend the cash instead on thoughtful little touches, such as some nicely contoured, and thus comfortable, seats, enabling the automaker to keep the selling price low without sacrificing on the day-to-day usability of their car!

2. Volvo S60 - From $172,000

A more in-depth look at the S60!

Sensible, sharp and Swedish - the latest Volvo S60 is quite the combination. It is definitely a handsome looking car, though its ancestry may be questionable - this is the first Volvo built on American soil. Still, with the excellent fit-and-finish, and plenty of room on the inside, does its country of origin really matter?

Its interior design though, is indisputably Swedish. Principles of Scandinavian-Minimalism have been strictly adhered to here, with no excess fluff, or gimmicks on the inside. Everything is in there to serve a purpose, and everything is sensibly laid out - the centre stack is a good case in point. It is dominated by a 9” portrait-style ‘Sensus’ infotainment touchscreen, and really not much else.

1. Jaguar XE - From $182,999

The XE promises to be dynamic, efficient, lightweight, and be a genuine alternative to anything with a German badge upfront. 75% of the bodyshell has been fabricated from Aluminium, making it the lightest and most rigid saloon the British marque has ever built, and with a dynamic suspension set up, which includes double wishbone fronts and an integral link rear axle, the XE offers an exciting drive without comprising ride refinement

On the inside, it features a stereo camera mounted behind the front windscreen, used for systems such as its autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning. The rest of the interior features a well thought out blend of high quality materials like leather, chrome and aluminium. Navigation and entertainment duties are carried out by Jaguar’s InControl Touch infotainment system.

These lineup of cars is proof that if you shop sensibly, you can have that luxury feel on, and all things are relative here, not all that much cash. Though if you’re truly looking to extract maximum value, consider purchasing a used luxury vehicle from our extensive used car classifieds. There are many reasons why you’d want to go down this route, and you can read up on some of them here, but one thing you can definitely look forward to is the lower depreciation that comes with a used vehicle!
