So the news is out! The Skoda Superb is Crowned Winner of Oneshift Car of the Year 2020!

It has been a challenging year for many of us, as the global pandemic wreaks havoc to not only the automotive industry, but all sectors. We have adapted, finding ways to keep ourselves going, and in our daily lives, we try to make things as normal as possible. It is heartening to know that the human spirit knows no boundaries, and we all have the will and determination to keep ourselves going.

Here at Oneshift, we have also kept ourselves going, bringing you the latest roadtests throughout the year. The Oneshift Car of the Year awards to us, is a perpetual ongoing process, to determine which cars are worth putting that downpayment for each year. The time has come for us to reveal the Oneshift Car of the Year for 2020!

And the winner is, the Skoda Superb 2.0 TSI Laurin & Klement!

The Skoda Superb has a special place in our hearts. The Czech D-Segment sedan, in its upmarket Laurin & Klement trim, has an equipment list that you could easily mistake for a car that is more upmarket.

Skoda as a brand to us, is one that focuses on practicality, sensibility and value… and their flagship sedan, the Superb is no exception. Built upon these principles in mind, the Superb is a smart offering for many, from business executives, families who prefer bigger cars, and even those who could do with a little more versatility for their daily activities.

You are guaranteed road presence with the Skoda Superb. Its elegantly designed grill and headlamps, and its long wheelbase gives it a stately appearance. Little touches, like its dynamic turn signals are stylish editions to a car that has been recently updated. While the exterior does make a bold statement, it truly is what is on the inside that counts the most.

Hop in, and enjoy premium audio quality from its 11 speaker Canton sound system. The Skoda Superb’s Columbus infotainment system which is fronted by a large 9.2” touchscreen, makes easy work of navigation, and offers connectivity to both Apple and Android devices. Behind the wheel, a digitised instrument panel, now adds greater functionality and customisation.

Stretch out in comfort, with armchair-like front seats, which are ventilated for even more comfort… a feature that is usually found in luxury branded cars. The Skoda’s long wheelbase also translates to excellent, if not, class-leading legroom for all passengers, especially those who are seated at the rear. Neat little touches, like an in-door umbrella holder within both the front doors, helps to ensure that you have a space to keep an umbrella on standby, and it is also self-draining.

One of the key features that has won us over, is the sheer size of the Skoda Superb’s boot. At 625 litres, it is by far class-leading, and it also boasts a unique liftback style automated bootlid, providing improved cargo area access. But if you need more room, it is hard to beat 1,760 litres when the rear seats are folded.

The Superb is powered by an efficient 2.0 turbocharged B-Cycle engine, returning a combined 6.3L/100km. The new quick-shifting 7-speed DSG transmission also plays a part in helping with the car’s fuel efficiency.

Where drive comfort is concerned, the Superb Laurin & Klement also features Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC); one of our absolute favourite features. When set in ‘Comfort’ drive mode, the Superb offers occupants a pliant ride, allowing you to waft around in sheer comfort. DCC can also be dialed up to stiffen the suspension, if you feel the need to drive more enthusiastically.

The Superb is also equipped with a suite of active features to keep you safer on the road. Features like Front Assist collision alert system, and Predictive Pedestrian Protection adds another layer of safety; and is awarded a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.

In all, the Skoda Superb does deliver excellently well on practicality, and has features that could easily rival many luxury brands... Luxury and space has never been this attainable!

The Skoda Superb 2.0 TSI Laurin & Klement. is the overall winner of this year’s Oneshift Car of the Year Award, one that is simply clever!

It was a touch fight, but find out which other cars are the best in their respective categories!
