Like everyone, the news of Raymond’s passing hit me like a shockwave. Considering that we were supposed to catch up over lunch that very week.

To be honest, my first impression of Raymond wasn’t a positive one. Perhaps because I was new to the motoring journalism community at the time, he appeared cold and reserved. It took a while but what ultimately brought us together was our common passion for the Porsche marque, believing that 911s are anything but squashed beetles.

Another passion that brought us even closer was our hobby of collecting premium hand built model cars. Our two passions combined, Raymond and I were hardly short of any topics to discuss whenever we met up at launch events.

Always eager to share his enthusiasm for all things automotive, he took me out for a blistering ride in the 2012 Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG just to explain the finer points of the new V8 Bi-turbo powerplant to me. That was the kind of generosity and knowledge sharing that made him so memorable to so many.

Raymond, I will always remember our endless conversations about Porsches and model cars. You’ve been an inspiration to myself and many others.

I might’ve missed out a chance to buy you that coffee last week, I’ll owe you one till the next time we meet buddy.
