The French are almost as obsessed with the Swedes when it comes to safety these days. The Pug has been awarded five stars in Euro NCAP crash tests and has scored almost full marks in the head on and side impact tests. The Megane too, is one of the safest cars of its kind - its hatch sibling received five stars from Euro NCAP in the past.

So it looks like a foregone conclusion for the ageing Megane CC then? The Pug has so far surpassed it in all departments but the Renault still has one final trump card - price. The Renault is over $10k more affordable than the 308CC and for those who can't stretch their budgets for the more modern and sophisticated Pug, the Megane CC is a compelling alternative indeed, especially bearing in mind that the latter was first introduced even way before the 308CC's predecessor, the 307CC. there's still life yet in the old dog.
