So at the end of the day, why should you pick the Mercedes-Benz SL350?

After all, (a) it doesn’t deliver the sort of handling finesse a Boxster can do si fluently, (b) there’s no turbocharger under the hood to make things more action-packed, and lastly (c) its cabin architecture is just your typical Mercedes affair.

Well, it’s simply because it is properly fast and properly smooth, and when you need to have some fun, it can play the part still. Then to make it an even way, way, way sweeter deal, the V6 lump produces such a sweet melody, and the exhaust excites more than irritate.

Meet Mr Captain of Segment.
