Lotus Elise SC Review: Yellow fever

Lotus Elise SC Review: Yellow fever

With the Elise SC, Lotus has a car that whizzes cleanly past high tax bands of other sports cars. And to add more salt to the wound, even outperforms them. But will it remain as every track-day enthusiast's dream car still?

The last time I recall having an enjoyable driving sensation was with the Renault Clio R27. Practical on a daily basis and appropriate out on the tracks, it features traits something hot-hatch lovin’ lads will appreciate. It has good grip and at the same time unlimited driving entertainment, but only bogged down by the amount of bodyroll.

The Porsche 911 Carrera S was another car I had loads of driving fun with – it combines Teutonic quality and Porsche’s technical gizmos together, and will surely make heads turn wherever it goes. But the downside is that with that size, it won’t be as agile and fun to drive as the Elise. Plus it’s more than double the price.

So what we have here is an oversized go-kart, err, I mean sports car that should be in the “must have” list of everyone who enjoys driving, and can afford to fork out $234 grand. Besides being the car, also think of the endless driving fun you’ll have. And the fact that the SC is reliable, economical, tax efficient and tells the world how much you appreciate driving in its true form…
