Justifying something in a package usually makes more sense. The Performance Package version of the Porsche Macan Turbo does make more sense, but not from the monetary point of view, but a more important one… Emotions, satisfaction and bang-on performance.

For those who feel that the Turbo’s too much is simply not enough, the 3.6 litre V6 gets 40 more horses and 50Nm more torque. Taking power and torque to 440hp and 600Nm respectively.

But does this actually translate to how the car feels on the road? Maximum torque kicks in at just 1,500RPM, and sticks till 4,500RPM. Enough to get all four wheels to bite, deal with the massive weight transference to the rear, and rocket the Macan to 100 in just 4.4 seconds, punching through the seven cogs of its dual-clutch transmission (PDK).

Where the Macan shines even more is how fluid it delivers all of this grunt on the run, taking just 2.9 seconds from 80-120km/h, where it would matter when exiting a bend on the track, and with a 15mm lower ride height, the Macan does fell well planted while doing this, while handling is further sorted out thanks to the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). Porsche also offers an air suspension system which allows the car to be lowered a further 10mm, but we feel that it really is not necessary.

But back on the ground on busy Singapore streets, the Macan, topped up to the brim with all the high(er) performance goodies is still able to function well like an everyday car. Driving it in comfort mode reveals a car willing to soak up the bumps, with the only hint of discomfort coming from the very large 21” rims, and thin rubber between them and the road surface.

As a plus, Porsche, like Audi and Volkswagen have also included the all-important “coast” function into their drive, meaning two of two things, that you can extend your range when in cruise, and you do get to do your little bit to save the environment…. When not tearing up the road.

With the thought that cars are going to go all-electric in time to come, there is only so little time left to enjoy the fruit of such great four-stroke mechanical engineering goodness from the guys at Stuttgart, for even they have to make the switch.

Our Thoughts
