EDITOR'S PICKS - No VES Penalty? Here Are Some Cars of Great Value to Consider

With the more stringent Phase 2 of the Vehicle Emissions Scheme (VES) kicking in, we have noted that some cars have gone up in price, due to them losing their rebate. There are however, a few cars which have passed through without a dent in their VES rebate, or have even stuck to their initial neutral ranking.

Aside from making smart choices to upgrade with low COE prices, stand to get an additional $10,000 rebate from the VES (A2 categorisation).

The Renault Grand Scenic is a compact MPV which gives off a premium and at the same time cute look. The design elements of the interior also makes the vehicle seem more spacious than it actually is with the use of plenty of glass and the split "A" pillar. The "A" pillar helps with frontal visibility for the driver and the short overhangs allow you to turn the car seamlessly through tight spaces.

Getting into the rear seats requires you to slide and tilt the middle row forward and the rear doors are just nice for adult entry. Even though it is 7-seater, do take note that the rear row is more suited for kids as there is not that much leg space at the back.

A plus to the list of features is that all three rows of seats come along with 12-volt power sockets as well as USB ports available for kids to charge their devices and be entertained on long trips (less "Are we there yet?")!

Bootspace is sufficient with 419mm of room, and if you drop down the back row, you’ll get a flat loading floor with 1,030mm of depth. This can be done easily by the Grand Scenic’s “one-touch” seat-folding function for both the middle and back-row seats. This makes dropping the back row for more luggage so much easier!

As a diesel vehicle, the 25km/l combined mileage would mean that you wouldn't have to fork out an arm and a leg to refuel the large car.

With these cars going under the radar and have kept to the same VES banding even with the latest revision, perhaps now it is the time to upgrade or change your car!
