BYD Atto 3 Facelift Review: Sharpening the Good
Although mechanically similar, the facelift brings desirable updates to keep the Atto 3 at the top of the sales charts.
Our Car of the Year of 2022 got a nip and tuck this year to allow it to retain its lead in the sales race.
The C-pillar on the exterior is now darkened instead of the brushed chrome finish of the pre-facelift car. The ‘Build Your Dreams’ badge on the rear bootlid, admittedly cheesy to some, has been replaced with the more pleasant ‘BYD’ typeface. The exterior look of the Atto 3 now is more complete.
There is also a new interior colour combination of Boulder Black and Cosmos Grey, while the infotainment screen has been upsized to match the one on the BYD Seal, now 15.6-inches in size (previous: 12.8-inch). Otherwise, it retains the funky muscle sinew and guitar string elements which made the Atto 3 so unique in the first place.
The chief complaint when we crowned the car as winner of our COTY is its Batman tyres. Yes… They are really Batman tyres. BYD has listened and changed them to Continental EcoContact 6s, which has really improved the car in every way, from tyre noise to ride comfort and handling. These are the tyres that the Atto 3 should have had from the beginning.
Two years on, the Atto 3 still feels surprisingly refined, comfy and good to drive. It was the car that put BYD on the map in the automotive industry in Singapore, and it still deserves honourable mention. With the facelift, the Atto 3 range is now stronger than ever including a Cat A offering (as is the one here), bolding well for BYD’s domination as the number 1 car brand in Singapore by sales volume.
