BMW 7 Series Sedan 730Li Review: Entree Level

BMW 7 Series Sedan 730Li Review: Entree Level

We've previously sampled the turbocharged 7 Series models and found out how good they are. Will the entry level normally aspirated 730Li be as good?

What we like:
pros
Pretty quick for such a big car with a 3-litre engine
pros
comfortable ride for a BMW
pros
interior build quality
What we dislike:
cons
Looks under-tyred with small wheels
cons
engine runs out of puff at high revs
cons
not as dynamic as previous model

The 730Li's standard equipment list consists of 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and operation, rear view cameras, electric sunroof and rear sunblind, four-zone climate control, cruise control, sat nav, in-car entertainment system and so on.

You can also tick the options boxes for kit like ventilated front and rear seats, Night Vision, Extended rear air-con, adaptive headlamps, high beam assist, side view camera, lane deviation warning and a head-up display unit. But do you actually need any of this stuff?

With a base price of $298,800, the 730Li is significantly more affordable than the 740Li but yet you still get a limo that looks somewhat similar, goes not too significantly slower than the mid-range variant. It certainly has the Merc S300L in its sight.
