What is vehicle deregistration in Singapore?

Deregistration cancels your vehicle's registration in Singapore, prohibiting its use or storage in the country.

When you deregister your vehicle, you must dispose of it by scrapping, exporting, or storing it temporarily in an Export Processing Zone (EPZ). After disposal, you may be eligible for PARF/COE rebates depending on your vehicle’s specifics. Failing to submit proof of disposal to LTA on time or continuing to use a deregistered vehicle is illegal.

OneShift offers the option to scrap or export your vehicle - source for the best price from more than 500 dealers in 24 hours. Click here to find out more!

How do I apply to deregister my vehicle?

You can deregister your vehicle online via Singpass 2FA. If you can't use Singpass, request an appointment at the LTA Customer Service Centre via www.lta.gov.sg/feedback.

A) SCRAP YOUR VEHICLE AT AN LTA-APPOINTED SCRAPYARD

To deregister and dispose of your vehicle at an LTA-appointed scrapyard, follow the steps based on whether your vehicle is eligible for PARF rebates. Check online to determine if your car qualifies for PARF rebates.

For PARF-eligible vehicles:

  • Drive or tow your vehicle to the scrapyard.
  • Deregister the vehicle at the scrapyard using the digital service with Singpass 2FA.

Then deregister vehicle

For non-PARF eligible vehicles:

  • Use option 1 in the digital service to authorise yourself or someone else to scrap the vehicle.

Proceed to deregister vehicle

The authorised person must bring the vehicle to an LTA-appointed scrapyard within 8 days, along with the original NRIC (for Singaporeans and PRs) or Employment/Immigration pass (for foreigners) and payment for any outstanding road tax and fees.

B) EXPORT YOUR VEHICLE

To dispose of your vehicle by exporting, use freight services and get the export documents from the freight agent. You might need to obtain deregistration details from LTA for overseas registration. The deregistration process differs based on whether your vehicle is PARF-eligible.

For PARF-eligible vehicles:

  • Use the digital service with Singpass 2FA to deregister your vehicle.

Then deregister vehicle

  • Export your vehicle
  • Submit your vehicle disposal documents via the digital service with Singpass 2FA within 1 month of deregistration.

Upload your vehicle disposal documents

For non-PARF eligible vehicles:

  • Export your vehicle
  • If your vehicle is non-PARF eligible, select option 2 in the digital service, specify the mode of export and upload the disposal documents as required.

Then deregister vehicle

C) STORE YOUR VEHICLE AT AN LTA-APPOINTED EXPORT PROCESSING ZONE

To deregister and store your vehicle at an LTA-appointed Export Processing Zone (EPZ) for up to 12 months, follow the steps according to whether your vehicle is PARF-eligible or not.
